Liz Stern's Top 10 Travel Lessons

1. Always Travel With A Journal

Not every experience is a photo opportunity but it is a memory that may help guide you in the future.

2. Expand Your Awareness

Travel is a catalyst, almost an antidote to the disconnect of people we pass but never know, along with social ills of our world; prejudice, ignorance, bigotry and fear.

3. Face Your Fear

When we travel and face our fear of the unexpected we stop being self-focused and start to feel empathy and recognize our shared humanity.

4. Self-Discovery

Travel can be great for self-discovery and realizing your hidden potential. It helps you appreciate the present moment and reevaluate your priorities in life.

5. Live in The Moment

It’s important to live in the moment, it may be all we have. In our daily life we don't have time to think about things that matter. Traveling gives you time to think, reflect and wonder about the big questions of your life.

6. Reinvigorate Yourself

When you travel and experience something special for the first time, you are reenergized or reinvigorated.

7. Educate Yourself

Travel can shatter preconceived ideas or prejudice. No matter how hard we try, we only know how to believe, think and act within the parameters of what we’ve been taught.

8. Challenge Yourself

By navigating your way around a new environment, you’re forced to challenge preconceived ideas and to learn how to communicate, even if no one speaks the same language.

9. New Perspective

Traveling is a great way to gain new points of view about how you lead your life. The people you meet in your journey will influence you and teach you about cultures, languages, traditions and history.

10. Create Shared Memories and Bring Them Back Home

We all have our favorite holidays and trips that we will never forget. It’s the story telling that lives with us long after a trip, as does the story of our legacy.
